What We’re Known For
Lockhart Apiaries has been pollinating for the low bush blueberry and apple industry for over 30 years. It has been proven through research that having honey bee colonies in blueberry fields and apple orchards that crop yields increase significantly. We maintain strong healthy hives and are very familiar with optimal colony strength to pollinate crops very efficiently.
Blueberries
Wild blueberries have become New Brunswick’s largest grown crop. Each season New Brunswick has 18,000 acres of blueberry fields that need to be pollinated.
Transportation
We are fully equipped to move our own colonies to pollination locations. Beehives are typically moved during the night when the bees aren’t flying.
Apples
The apple industry has grown significantly in New Brunswick in recent years. Apple tree pollination season is typically just before blueberry pollination toward the end of May.
When you think about farming in New Brunswick, you can’t ignore blueberries and apples. These fruits have been crucial to the region’s agriculture for many years. The honey bee industry is also essential because bees help pollinate these crops, which means they help the plants produce fruit. Lockhart Apiaries, a local business, has been providing these important pollination services for over 30 years. They help ensure that New Brunswick’s 18,000 acres of blueberry fields and many apple orchards get the pollination they need to thrive.
Pollination is a vital process where bees move from flower to flower, spreading pollen that helps plants grow fruit. Without bees, many crops would have much lower yields. This interconnected relationship shows how important bees are to the success of farming in New Brunswick. The careful timing of moving bee colonies to different fields ensures that plants get pollinated at the right time, which maximizes their growth and fruit production.
